Portland V.A. Hospital Fall 2009

For nearly 9 months I had the pleasure of working for the V.A. Hospital atop the city of Portland. Even having worked for years in different pharmacies already, I had no idea what I was getting into. I could not believe the receptiveness of the patients. Maybe it was because many of the men were Vietnam vets would had no one left in their lives. It was rewarding to feel like I was giving back to those who served our country. It was also pleasant to hear a thank you here and there which is more than I had received by working in communities where every prescription to most patients was provided free to the patient by state aid. It is a constant challenge working a tireless and mostly thankless job, even more so since I happen to be a very giving person. It was a long nine months, working sometimes an exhausting amount of hours and usually waking up much earlier than the sun, but I learned so much. I will always value the time I spent working at the V.A. and hopefully one day I will have the chance again.

When I didn’t have to commute by the bus-train-bus route to the Vancouver campus, I would walk down the hill from my rented house to OHSU, the university hospital, and walk across the skybridge to get to the VA hospital. The pedestrian bridge happens to be the longest suspended skybridge in North America at a length of 660 feet. Here are a few of my views from the sky bridge:

Bella's House Again 09.26.09

So after the Sam Bradley show on the 25th, I had to head over to Bella’s house in Surrey because I knew they were shooting that night. No actors stopped after filming, but Alice’s car was spotted.
The next day I figured I would take the time to check out old shooting sights I had missed before.
Kyle Center – where they had the police station
Belcarra Regional Park White Pine Beach – where the bad vampires come out of the water in Eclipse
 Jacob’s House

A black bear in the trees by Jacob’s house
Belmont Farms - The barn where they filmed Jacper's flashback scene
Tim Horton’s – a snack during all the driving
Finished off with Bella’s house again before leaving Canada

Sam Bradley & The Men Concert 09.25.09

From yet another blog I wrote on Twifans.com:

Sam Bradley In Concert Last Friday – and I was there!

Sam Bradley and The Men performed this last Friday night on September 25, 2009 at the Venue in downtown Vancouver. I made a special trip up from Portland just for it. Okay, I may have been a bit more apt to see the concert as an Eclipse actor may have been there, although none were. (Maybe they were at Pearl Jam?) At least that’s how I felt until after the first song. I have listened to some of Sam’s stuff on his myspace, but some of the songs are old and it was NOTHING compared to him live. I have him on the calendar for December when he comes to Portland. No joke.

Sam’s opening act was a Vancouver local Mani Khaira. He was great! His vocals were powerful and his keyboard playing was completely infectious. I laughed so hard when he told us to buy a T-shirt because that’s how he feds his band. His guitarist looked a bit like a hipster, but his drummer was hot! My favorite songs were Oblige and Anything You Ask.

Back to Sam! So when I first listened to his myspace page, I must say I wasn’t so impressed. I only kind of liked Soho Whores and Derek – much better live by the way. As soon as I heard the opening song Watching Over You, I became a fan.

Since I have done several presentations lately, I'll give you a little bullet point.

* Sam Bradley has been in Vancouver for 6 years now.
* He is from London and that’s how he knows Rob Pattinson.
* He co-wrote Never Think from the Twilight Soundtrack.
* He “was in Victoria” the night before and told us that we could take that whichever way we like. ha ha
* He has been with his current band, Sam Bradley and The Men, for the last year.
* Sam introduced his bandmate and guitar player Dave Meszaros first – and mentioned how he has a “huge penis.” LOL!
* Drummer Matt Kerrey’s introduction was next and not only does he have a “huge penis,” but “he is single” too.
* And then there was bass player Jeff Reidlinger and his “huge penis” as well.
* Sam looks good without the jacket.
* At one point, Sam mentioned how he had a dream recently about reaching into an audience full of their hands up. He proceeded to then go for it.
* I enjoyed Sam’s dancing and the obligatory booty shake of course. See 00:49 of the video below.

* He was excited to be in Vancouver, but even more excited to go on tour with another Canadian musician Justin Nozuka (I especially like After Tonight) and to be doing it on a bus.
* More pictures are in my Twifans album.
* You can see more of my videos on my YouTube page.

To Be Continued...

So it's been almost a year since I've input anything into this blog. Wow - a year. I thought it started off strong, but as life (and procrastination, of course) took over things fell to the wayside.

First things first, I must do something about the name of this blog although I'm not ready to. I am no longer located in Portland, but I am still in transition. MissAdventures in Limbo? I don't think I like the sound of that. I am glad that I can change the name of the blog otherwise I just might feel static and definitely wouldn't want that. I feel like I still have so many places to go and so many things to see. My bucket list is forever expanding. Where I will be moving to in the near future is still up in the air.

So much has happened this past year. As I am writing I can almost hear the song Seasons of Love from Rent - "how do you measure, measure a year?" I guess I need to decide where I want to go from here. Do I want to recap past adventures or simply move forward? Decisions, decisions. We'll just have to wait and see.
